A central pillar of our clinical research has been to reduce postoperative morbidity and opioid use after common surgeries like tonsillectomy and tympanostomy tube placement. Led by Drs. David Chi (MD) and Amber Shaffer (PhD), and supported by Research Facilitator Marina Rushchak (BA), our team is conducting randomized trials evaluating the effects of non-opioid medications, corticosteroids, and minimally invasive techniques.
One of our most exciting current projects is a prospective trial comparing anterior and posterior tympanostomy tube placement, aimed at reducing rates of otorrhea and other complications while preserving hearing outcomes. This work directly informs clinical decision-making in one of the most frequently performed pediatric procedures.
