Greetings from the University of Pittsburgh Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh is one of the elite programs in the United States and a leader in surgical innovation and entrepreneurship. The outstanding faculty includes several of our specialty’s most prominent thought leaders and visionaries dedicated to the highest standard of clinical care and research. The residency and fellowship programs are among the best in the country. As Chair, I am building upon this remarkable foundation to set a new Pittsburgh standard of excellence in academic otolaryngology/head and neck surgery.
Our Department is one of the leading clinical, basic, and translational research programs in the United States. In 2023, we ranked #3 in the nation in NIH funding among Otolaryngology Departments. This success is built upon our Head and Neck Cancer SPORE program, one of only three such programs in the United States, in collaboration with the Department of Radiation Oncology. Another pillar of our research success is the Pittsburgh Hearing Research Center (PHRC). With over $5 million in annual funding from the NIH, NSF, DOD, and foundation grants, the PHRC is among the strongest hearing research programs in the country. In collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, we recently launched a new PhD certificate program in Hearing and Visual Sciences to provide dedicated training for PhD students across the University of Pittsburgh.
On this website, you can learn about our training, clinical programs, subspeciality institutes, and new research initiatives. Thank you for your interest in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh.
