ENT Navigator: Clinical Outcomes Research core

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery hosts ENT Navigator: Clinical Outcomes Research core (ENCORe), a centralized hub designed to support and accelerate clinical research across the department. Building on a legacy of innovation and leadership in Otolaryngology, ENCORe strengthens research infrastructure, streamlines access to expert resources, and fosters impactful, interdisciplinary investigations.

As clinical research in Otolaryngology continues to expand in scope and complexity, ENCORe serves as a catalyst for discovery by enhancing efficiency, reducing redundancy, and offering cost-effective, specialized research services. Whether you're a faculty member, trainee, or research collaborator –  ENCORe empowers you to pursue high-impact studies through expert support and mentorship.

Core Services

ENCORe offers wide-ranging support for Otolaryngology-focused research, which includes:
•    Database development and management
•    Study design 
•    Regulatory support
•    Grant writing
•    Manuscript preparation support
•    Statistical support
•    Research seminars providing Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit
•    Central location for responsible conduct of research training, funding opportunities, and other resources

ENCORe engages collaborators from a variety of disciplines to support Otolaryngology research utilizing:
•    Chart review 
•    Clinical trials
•    Patient-centered outcomes (surveys)
•    Quality improvement and assurance
•    Cost-effectiveness
•    Geographic information systems
•    Qualitative methodology

Strategic Aims

ENCORe is focused on three key aims:
•    Aim 1: Develop a centralized website to serve as a hub for research onboarding, IRB guidance, study proposal intake, and resources.
•    Aim 2: Build a dedicated clinical outcomes database specifically for Pediatric Otolaryngology research, with the long-term goal of expanding support to all subspecialities within the Department of Otolaryngology.
•    Aim 3: Deliver full-spectrum research support services across all project phases – from conception to dissemination.
