Speech-language pathologists are available to assess swallowing during the post-operative visit. A swallowing re-evaluation can determine if the patient’s current oral diet can be advanced and if swallowing techniques are required to swallow safely. Swallowing exercises are introduced to patients who require additional treatment (chemotherapy and or radiation) following surgery.
