Hearing Loss and Tinnitus Research

In researching drug therapy for tinnitus, Thanos Tzounopoulos, PhD, Director of the Pittsburgh Hearing Research Center, has discovered a biological mechanism for tinnitus and has been pursuing preclinical studies with a small molecule that mitigates tinnitus in animal models.

Moreover, Dr. Thanos Tzounopoulos and Dr. Chris Cunningham, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, recently discovered a biological mechanism for noise-induced hearing loss and a potential therapeutic for preventing and/or mitigating it.
